Quick tips: how to clean your electric kettle in the quickest ways

After using the electric kettle for some time, lime scale often develops inside. If not cleaned, it could affect health, and reduce the performance and life of the appliance. Please check out these instructions on how to quickly and effectively clean electric kettle.

Lime scale

As water boils going through temperatures, several processes take place that could reduce the quality of an electric kettle. Rust will first manifest itself in areas that are frequently exposed to high temperatures, such as the bottom of the jar.

In addition, heavy metal ions like calcium and magnesium present in water, particularly tap water, harden the water. From prolonged exposure to high temperature the deposits and stains appear and stick to the inner part of the kettle.

These residues compromise the drink's flavor and may be harmful to consumers. Users therefore should take the following steps to clean the electric kettle and alleviate health risks.

There are several simple ways to remove stains and odors in electric kettles, using easy-to-find materials such as vinegar, lemon, baking soda, eggshell, potato peels or even tea leaves.

Vinegar and lemon

The simplest and most efficient method is to use lemon or vinegar. Add 100 ml of vinegar or lemon juice to the jar, and pour in a liter of water. After boiling for an hour, the jar should be rinsed several times with clean water.

Lemon has a high acidity that can clean the stains in the kettle

Baking soda

Another typical cleaning solution in kitchens is baking soda. There are two techniques to clean the scale from a super-fast kettle:

  • Method 1: Boil water for a few minutes and add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the electric kettle to remove the scale.
  • Method 2: Gently wipe the stains in the jar with a paste made of 1 percent baking soda and a little water, then rinse with clean water.

Baking soda works well on removing scales

Eggshell

Do not rush to throw away the eggshell because it can be used to clean the kettle.

Smash the eggshell from a boiled egg and place the pieces in the kettle. Fill it half way up, use chopsticks to stir and boil for about 30 minutes. Wipe the kettle twice after removing the eggshell.

Potato peel

Clean some potatoes, peel and place the peels in the electric kettle with an appropriate amount of water. The scale can vanish after boiling for 10 minutes. Pour the mixture away and rinse the kettle with clean water.

Fresh tea leaves or loofah

Simply place a loofah in the kettle, and it will function as a filter to prevent residue buildup. It should be emphasized, nevertheless, that users should regularly replace the loofah and maintain it clean before putting it in the kettle. Alternatively, tea leaves may be used. To get rid of tough deposits, crush green tea leaves and add them to a saucepan of boiling water. Let them steep for approximately a day.

Some tips to preserve the electric kettle

  • After using the kettle, always unplug it.
  • To prevent scaling and rusting, do not leave water in the kettle for an extended period of time.
  • The kettle should be dried by being turned upside down after use.
  • Put the kettle and its base in a chilly, spotless, and dry location.
  • Avoid flushing the kettle or submerging it in water to prevent electrical shocks or fire as water may come in contact with components of the appliance.
