Making cold brew coffee at home is easy

October 2nd, 2023

Cold brew coffee has conquered the world with a delicate taste, less sour than the traditional hot coffee. Cold brewing method is one of the most different ways of not using hot water to make coffee. Each country has different tastes but generally, they share the same things.

What is Cold Brew Coffee?

Understanding types of coffees, tasting layers, and mastering various brews seem to have become the mission of professional barista. Currently, in addition to making traditionally filtered coffee and coffee from a machine, artistic making methods such as Syphon, Pour Over or Cold Brew (making cold coffee) are popular with many people and attract the barista’s community to study.

Cold brewed coffee method is one of the most different ways of not using hot water to make coffee. Many people often misunderstand cold brew as iced coffee. However, cold brew is a way to make coffee using cold water for as long as about 24 hours, only the time taken excluding the brewing time is from 20 to 25 minutes.

The general method of making a cold brew is to soak ground coffee in cold water, then leave it alone, do not work and refrigerate for a long time (at least 12 hours) to extract all the coffee essence. If done properly and let it chill enough time, the water after brewing is sometimes even richer than the familiar hot methods of brewing coffee.

Steps to make Cold Brew Coffee:

Step 1: Grind 250 gram of coffee in a crude level (level 5, 6). We can also buy beans from coffee roasters and ask them to grind on request. Coffee does not need to be grinded too fine as they will be soaked in water for a long period of time.

Step 2: Divide the coffee into two equal parts, put a half and 500 ml of water in a glass cup and stir it well, let the coffee "rest" for about five minutes.

Step 3: After five minutes, continue to add the other half and another 500 ml of water at room temperature, stir well.

Step 4: Cover the glass jar containing coffee, put it in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours. Depending on the amount of coffee you use, the chilling time can be long or short accordingly.

Step 5: After 24 hours, take out the coffee jar, place a sieve on the mouth of a second vase and then slowly pour the coffee down to separate the residue. After all the coffee liquid has dripped, remove the ground. Don’t press down with your hands to squeeze the water.

Step 6: Place water-soaked food filter paper on a third glass.

Step 7: Pour coffee through the paper filter twice and wait for all the coffee to flow through.
