Open the lid of the thermos and keep it open for some time. Over time, the odor will gradually emanate. This way works well to eliminate slight odors. If it is a strong odor, we should use soda and lemon as per the following instruction.
Salt
The bactericidal and deodorizing effects of salt are quite powerful. After cleaning the stainless steel thermos, pour salt water into it and shake it a few times. Next keep the cup for several hours. Don’t forget to turn the thermos upside down so that salt water can soak the whole thermos bottle once. Finally, rinse with warm water and the odor will be removed.
Lemon
Place fresh lemon peel, or lemon juice into the thermos, tighten the lid and keep it closed for about four hours. Then, shake the bottle and leave it for 15 minutes. The odor will disappear. Lemon can also be replaced by orange, while the method is the same.
Baking soda and vinegar
Put about one tablespoon of baking soda (about 14 ml) and 100 ml of vinegar in the thermos, pour in some hot water. Wait for the frothing and fizzing to subside. Don’t put the lid back on because the vinegar and baking soda mix are highly reactive. Then empty the thermos and give it a good rinse with hot water. After that, we can wipe the thermos with a cleaning cloth or leave it to dry naturally so the bad smell will completely disappear.
