Vietnam’s Rang Dong Hosts Green Building Standards Workshop

The “Green Building Trends and Potential” workshop was held on March 20 in Hanoi by Rang Dong and Kingsway Joint Stock Company, one of the Vietnamese agents authorized to distribute Rang Dong’s products. At the event conducted in an open ‘café talk’ format, architects, contractors, consultants and energy experts exchanged information and experience on Vietnamese and international green building standards LEED, LOTUS and EDGE.

The gathering served as a strategic platform to navigate the evolving landscape of sustainable construction in Vietnam, emphasizing the integration of high-tech solutions into modern architectural frameworks. 

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the globally recognized certification developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, while LOTUS certification is issued by the Vietnam Green Building Council specifically for the Vietnamese market. EDGE stands for Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies and which is developed by the World Bank Group’s IFC.

Experts said the three certifications were the ‘golden keys’ to enhance a project value, optimizing energy efficiency and boosting market competitiveness. Adhering to the standards was not only just a trend, but also a technical necessity, they said. 

By mastering the specific criteria of each certification, developers can significantly reduce operational costs and environmental impact. 

Participants discussed how the frameworks influence on every stage of a project’s lifecycle, from initial conceptual design and material selection to high-precision construction and long-term facility management.

Sharing the practical application of green building standards in real-world scenarios, experts gave actionable approaches for stakeholders looking to enter the green market, who should prepare for the followings. 

-        Criterion mastery: Deepening technical understanding of evaluation metrics for energy, water and indoor environmental quality.

-        Professional capacity: Enhancing the specialized skills of engineering and design teams to meet rigorous certification requirements. 

-        Early-stage synergy: Strengthening the coordination between investors, architects and technology providers from the very beginning of the project. 

Experts also shared lessons from the field, offering a look into the challenges and successes of implementing sustainable technologies in the Vietnamese climate. The collaborative spirit fosters a supportive network where partners can assist one another in navigating complex regulatory and technical landscapes.
